The Seed Unit of is an important service and production-oriented unit engaged in the production, processing, testing, storage, and distribution of quality seeds to farmers. The unit plays a vital role in strengthening agricultural productivity by ensuring the timely availability of genetically pure and high-quality seeds of improved crop varieties suitable for the agro-climatic conditions of Southern Karnataka.
The Seed Unit serves as a bridge between agricultural research and the farming community through systematic seed production and quality assurance programmes. It contributes to enhanced crop productivity, seed replacement, food security, and rural livelihood improvement. The unit also supports farmer awareness programmes, seed village initiatives, and extension activities in collaboration with research stations, KVKs, and other agricultural stakeholders.
