New Horizons in Agricultural Education

At the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya (UAS Mandya), we embrace the transformative power of knowledge, regional empowerment, and sustainable farming. Rooted in the rich agricultural legacy of the Old Mysuru region, our university aspires to be a catalyst for a new era of innovation and inclusive growth in agricultural education, research, and outreach.

Our journey began in 1931, with the founding of the historic Sugarcane Research Station at V.C. Farm by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, a visionary ruler and patron of agricultural advancement. Over the decades, V.C. Farm has achieved landmark milestones, including the release of India’s first hybrid paddy variety (KRH-2), the development of the INDAF series of ragi varieties by Dr. Ragi Lakshmanaiah, and high-yielding sugarcane varieties that continue to shape farming practices across South India.

UAS Mandya is committed to nurturing agricultural talent through a comprehensive suite of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs in agriculture and allied disciplines. Our focus on need-based research and grassroots outreach aims to uplift rural youth, strengthen farming communities, and foster sustainable livelihoods.

On 24th April 2025, the Government of Karnataka formally approved the establishment of a new agricultural university at the V.C. Farm campus in Mandya - a long-awaited and historic milestone for the Mysuru revenue district.

Carved out of the jurisdictions of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, and the Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, the newly constituted University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya (UAS Mandya) will bring together key academic and research institutions under a unified banner, fostering regional excellence in agricultural education, research, and extension.

The university’s jurisdiction will encompass the districts of Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan, Chamarajanagar, and Kodagu, positioning UAS Mandya as a dynamic hub for agricultural innovation, sustainability, and capacity-building in southern Karnataka.
